The GAO (General Accounting Office) is an office in the Executive Branch of government, which is controlled by the President, whose feelings on immigration of the illegal variety are well-known.
He is reluctant to enforce border controls, or to let anyone else (e.g. Arizona) do it for him.
He is in favor of, not just amnesty, but a "path to citizenship" for illegal immigrants.
Any reports that make illegal immigrants look like less than "law-abiding, tax-paying, upstanding
members of the community" make it more difficult for him to advance his agenda.
Any such reports, if they cannot be squashed or downplayed, are likely to have their numbers edited in a direction favorable to advancing his agenda, if possible.
This is such a report.
Therefore, it is either accurate, or adjusted to be inaccurate on the low side.

actually i think IKE would have a cure for the BS. he had a problem of about a million plus illegals. he said ship em home. the politicos told him it couldn't be done. so he went ahead and sent em home anyway. i think O passed on about 300,000 illegals that are in school or whatever. just gonna 'help' them.

If IKE could deport a million plus illegals back in his day, then what IS stopping Obama from doing the same???

Operation Wetback 1954-1955. The effort started in California and Arizona in 1954 and involved 1075 Border Patrol agents, along with state and local police agencies (didn't a recent law in Arizona involve the police working with INS/ICE to turn illegals over; oh, I forgot Obama bin Lying said that wasn't right). Tactics employed included going house to house in Mexican-American neighborhoods and citizenship checks during standard traffic stops (yup, that's what they wanted to do in Arizona checks during traffic stops and such). Some 750 agents focused on agricultural areas with a goal of 1,000 apprehensions per day. By the end of July 1954, over 50,000 illegal aliens were apprehended in the two states. An estimated 488,000 illegal aliens are believed to have left voluntarily, for fear of being apprehended. By September, 80,000 had been taken into custody in Texas, and the INS estimated that 500,000 to 700,000 had left Texas of their own accord. To discourage illicit re-entry, buses and trains took many deportees deep within Mexican territory before releasing them (I prefer to discourage illegal re-entry by implanting specially formed metallic or bismuth anti-bio devices deep inside the thoracic and cranial cavities of those apprehended). Tens of thousands more were deported by two chartered ships: the Emancipation and the Mercurio. The ships transported the illegals from Port Isabel, Texas, to Veracruz, Mexico, more than 500 miles to the south. Some were taken as far as 1000 miles. Deportation by sea was ended after seven deportees jumped overboard from the Mercurio and drowned, provoking a mutiny (if there was a mutiny the Navy should have sent both ships to the bottom after getting the crews off) that led to a public outcry in Mexico.

but we are so friggin PC now that we all have to 'help' the poor people of other countries "first". it is so darn nice to be the "good guys" ain't it. and meanwhile this country slides further and further down the economic/society scale that we are close to being a third world country in many if not all areas. soon the will turn the statue of liberty around so americans (if any are left) can figure out which way to head OUT of the country.
