Hmmm... Can you suspend the net just below the branches making the leaves? Or would the cat treat it like a hammock?

For pgculater and others, this was posted on another forum:

We as a nation have the responsibility to protect our heirloom vegetables and grain...so I am asking all farmers and home gardeners to plant as many varieties of heirloom as is possible to keep the edible alive..Learn how to capture the seeds that are needed for the next year...yes I am working on it. If you can produce food you can make money.

spt - thanks for the find. every bit of encouragement is helpful, and this is the season to be gathering those seeds! I've got enough jalapeno seeds to plant a couple acres. Anybody want some? Carrots are a little tougher - it takes two years for a carrot plant to produce seeds. I had one stray Imperator carrot from last year that threw up flowers, and I got some seeds from it for next year. I'm going to try to set aside some of this year's Danvers half-long and Scarlet Nantes for next year to seed, but they're out in the middle of the garden, so I'll have to be careful with the tiller next spring. I planted some Delicata spaghetti squash seed saved from last year, and they produced 1/2 yellow and 1/2 green mystery squash. Apparently last year's was a hybrid. One of the hills came up with a uniformly cream-colored squash, so I'll save that one's seed for next year and see what it does. I'm having trouble catching the cole seeds (broccoli, Brussels sprouts, etc.) Anybody have a suggestion?

To this smoker, they do. Green bell peppers eventually ripen into red bell peppers, so the difference in taste, if there is one, would be too subtle for me to detect.

Well now I didn't know the green turned into red that sort of proves they taste the same. I quit smoking in 2005, February but still crave the smokers gum. Did you see my artichoke and tomato plants that I posted for you above?:)

PG, a friend of mine lives in Oregon and she grows blue berries and black berries are wild. Isn't the weather about the same in your area?
Black berries on sale here are a dollar for six ounces and blue berries are outrageous just thought that might be a good seller for you:) BTW, you haven't been posting and you were the gatherer you know:)

I grew up next to my grandpa who was a truck farmer. He grew everthing and I was very fortunate to live next to him as I learned alot. I didn't grow a garden this year but did help my great aunt who has had a garden every year since she was a child. She has given me some winter onions which are doing great. What a gem at the young age of 93.
