Anyone out there know the difference between the windows xp home or professional versions? I thought the professional was for business, seems it is not so....I am buying xp soon and there is a 2002? and a now version plus there is home or pro plus there are some that have additional features. There are so many choices on Ebay I am getting confused.

Anyone?

Thanks

I have used a Windows XP for 3 years and I like it. But my freind if you are like me you,ll be confused even whether you use a Windows 98 or Vista or XP. I think computers are just that way. Walk softly, be good , be careful and carry a big stick.............Pofolkno1

I had XP Home for years on my other two computers, and got XP Pro on this new one. I don’t see a difference. What don’t you like about it?

It’s probably a matter of getting used to it. I had problems loading it on and it took 3 times to get it right at least I hope it is right. It still stops at turn on and asks if I want to boot to XP almost as if it isn’t complete, oh well. Looks like I have 2 partials and 1 complete, how to get the first 2 off without damaging the 3rd is another problem, eventually maybe.

The thing that caused me the most problem is that it has no DOS that I could see so I couldn’t format the drive and start over.

Yes, the no DOS is the one thing I was really disappointed with but only because I can’t play my old DOS games on it. What other OS is on the machine? It seems to me there would be somewhere in the BIOS Setup that you would select it to always start in XP so you’d stop getting that message at start up.

The 3 OS’s are 2 incomplete XP’s and 1 complete, lol. I really is a mess but slowly it’s coming around. Thanks to "More space" a utility that I would be lost without. Do you ever play at Pogo? I used to play at iwin but they made it pay. Aren’t many good game sites anymore. I can’t stand DOS games anymore. They seem so antiquated.lol

I hope you get your OSes settled soon!

I haven’t been to Pogo for years, and I’d been to iwin a few times but if I remember correctly they had a LOT of advertisement pop-ups so I quit going there. I’ve never been a big fan of playing online anyway.

I have some favorite old DOS games that I still enjoy and they play fine on XP Home, so I’ll just have to play them on my old computer.

2 other things that disturb me, very few choices for sound themes. prior OS had a lot of sound themes like, "jungle, robot, etc. Also, there were lots of desktop themes which included nice screen savers that matched the desktop. Isn’t the OS supposed to get better? Prior os had more options:(

I noticed the lack of sounds on this one, and the desktop color choices. I always used a nice teal & gray because it was easy on the eyes, and with this one I had to go with a medium blue. I don’t use screen savers so I haven’t looked at them. Home had more options like that than Pro does because Pro is geared more for businesses which wouldn’t use all of those options.

Windows 98 had my favorite Golf game, but they didn’t put it in XP. Now I play Free Cell while I’m waiting for pages to load, and Hoyle Board games.

I did find out that there was an XP plus but it is not for free anymore, you have to buy it. Vista now comes with a plus:( for free.
