In an exclusive interview with Newsmax.TV, GOP presidential contender Newt Gingrich blasted President Barack Obama’s policy reversal on coverage of birth control and the morning-after pill saying the new policy “may actually be worse” than the rules that caused the controversy in the first place.

Liberal Catholics have sided with conservatives in opposing the Obama administration’s plan to require faith-based organizations to offer insurance policies that cover procedures the Catholic church finds morally unacceptable. So on Friday the president announced he would instead require all insurance companies to cover the pills and procedures, which include sterilization, free-of-charge and without co-pays.

“I think average Americans deeply resent the Obama administration trying to impose rules on religious institutions,” said Gingrich.

Many Catholic leaders reacted negatively to Obama’s revised policy. They pointed out that there are several Catholic insurance firms and self-insured Catholic organizations that would still be affected.

Throughout the controversy over the HHS mandate, which is part of the process of determining what procedures must be covered under the president’s healthcare reforms, pastors and ministers across the political spectrum have come to Catholics’ defense.

They frame the issue as one of religious liberty and the First Amendment, rather than a debate about what does or does not constitute abortion.

Gingrich told Newsmax on Friday that he doubts whether the new policy represents a significant concession.

“It’s a clever maneuver which may actually be worse, not better,” said Gingrich, who added he intends to carefully explore the details of the new proposal. “A number of leading Catholic intellectuals believe this is worse. It’s certainly worse as a matter of conscience.”

Gingrich said, “I don’t believe President Obama cares anything about what Catholics think,” pointing out that as an Illinois state senator Obama opposed a bill that would have banned partial-birth abortion.

“He has been relentlessly hostile to traditional religions,” charged Gingrich, who is a convert to Catholicism. “I think that his administration doesn’t share any of the values, and they proved that.

“They might temporarily maneuver for the purpose of getting through an election, but I think everybody ought to look at that and say to yourself, ‘What do you think he’ll do the week after the election?’” he added.

Other highlights from the exclusive Gingrich interview conducted at CPAC, an event Gingrich said was created to “take on the Republican establishment”:

• Gingrich defined the political establishment as “people who are winning the insider game. They have basically a rigged deck, and as far as they are concerned basically life is fine.” Those individuals aren’t interested in reforming fundamental institutions in society because “They’re pretty happy managing the decay, because they’re the ones who win,” he said.

• He told Newsmax former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney “had a really bad week” after losing to former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum in Minnesota, Colorado, and Missouri. “The establishment media kept telling us he was going to be inevitable,” said Gingrich. “And yet after all the money he’s spent, all the attack ads he’s run, he ran out of gas. And I think it will be interesting to see now as we go to the next round. If he can’t come up with something positive, I’m not sure pure negativity carries you very far. So people will then get to choose. In some ways, this is a new race.”

• He made a strong defense of his political resume, arguing he’s the only candidate presenting big enough ideas to really make a difference. He said his American Conservative Union voting record is “far higher” than Santorum’s, and dismissed Romney as “clearly just a moderate.” But he said the real question is whether candidates’ ideas are bold enough to renew the nation economically and politically. “I think my track record is pretty good at doing that,” he said.

• He was sharply critical of the administration’s response to the imprisonment of 16 Americans in Egypt, which Gingrich sees as an effort by the former military allies of deposed Egyptian leader Hosni Mubarak to hold onto power by stirring up nationalistic sentiments.

“The Obama administration reminds me of Jimmy Carter in his weakness and in his self-deception,” Gingrich charged, adding: “And I think the idea that we’re going to be impotent in the face of this dictatorship is crazy. So I would hope that the administration would have the courage to stand up to them and demand that they release the Americans.

• He said his budget proposals would be radically different than Obama’s, modernizing federal bureaucracies to save $500 billion a year. Also, he said he would cut out “between $60 and $110 billion a year that currently goes to crooks because the federal government is so inefficient and incompetent.”

• He added the general election will be a choice the ideas and values determine “that have made us the freest country in history -- and a radical who believes in a very different system, and who will move us to a Washington-dominated, bureaucratically administered, politician-defined future that bears no resemblance to the America that we were born into. This is the most important election of our lifetime.”

It's obvious that Obama's "compromise" is a logical null. The people who pay for the insurance will be paying for the coverage that the insurers will provide "for free".
Absent from the discussion is any consideration of individual First Amendment rights.
Those who work for small employers who won't be required (at first) to provide insurance for their employees will have to buy individual policies, all of which will be required by HHS to include these morally objectionable coverages.
The only possible solution to protect First Amendment rights is to remove the requirement that Insurance companies must provide these coverages, and that won't happen since it is one of Obamacare's central features.
So the institutions will get their fig leaf, and religious freedom rights will devolve into "collective" rights, and the U.S. continues its slide into a totalitarian police state.
A big "Thank You" to all the institutions who will settle for their "collective" rights and abandon those of us who raised our voices on their behalf.

Subject: The Six Commandments return to Ten!

Mathew Staver, Founder and Chairman
Liberty Counsel
Here is how the media is reporting the latest news on Liberty Counsel’s
case defending the Giles County, VA, school system against the ACLU…

“Virginia School Board Votes to Remove Ten Commandments from School”

Sadly, that is the media’s spin based on, at best, a partial truth.
Please read my important update on this pivotal case and get “the rest of the
story,” as Paul Harvey used to say! – Mat.

William,

Late Thursday afternoon, the Giles County School Board voted 3-2 to have
an existing display of the Ten Commandments removed from the Narrows High
School’s “Foundations of American Law and Government” display – the cause
of a lawsuit filed by the ACLU against the school system.
But, the Board (our client) also voted unanimously to accept a Ten
Commandments display modification put forth by the private creator of the
original display!

You will no doubt remember that one of the suggestions by the federal
judge in this case was that the parties consider eliminating the first Four
commandments from the display – presumably because they more directly refer to
“the Lord your God” – and use just the remaining six Commandments in the
display.

The new document replaces the original Ten Commandments display with a
page from a Prentice-Hall textbook on American history, a book which is
approved for use in Virginia’s public schools.

The page depicts the “Roots of Democracy” and begins with the Ten
Commandments’ stone tablets.

The textbook page states, “The values found in the Bible including the Ten
Commandments and the teachings of Jesus inspired American ideas about
government and morality.”

From this origin, the page from the approved textbook traces the roots of
democracy through the Magna Carta to the Enlightenment and up to the
present time.

Here’s a little background information: The Virginia Standards of Learning
requires students to know about the foundational principles of
civilizations and the origins of ancient and modern concepts of law and government.

Secular textbooks published by Prentice-Hall and McGraw-Hill trace the
roots of democracy and law and specifically refer to the Ten Commandments, as
evidenced by the new document on display in Giles County.

As I’m sure you’ll agree, the Board’s decision to post a page from an
approved Virginia textbook is a much better solution than merely editing four
Commandments out of the Decalogue!

++The “mainstream media” is badly misreporting this case.

William, I’m sure you would agree that a display on the foundations of
American law and government would be incomplete and inaccurate without
including the Ten Commandments. Any student of history knows this basic truth.

Here is the bottom line, with no spin: The Ten Commandments will still be
on display in Narrows High School – but in a Virginia Standards of Learning
approved format.

And that’s the rest of the story!

++Sadly, ACLU bullies will continue looking for victims.

The ACLU is committed to marginalizing America’s religious heritage by
attempting to remove any expression of religion from the public square. They
routinely attempt to bully public school administrations into “rolling over”
for their radical agenda.

In all the years since D-Day, there are three occasions when the president failed to go to the D-Day Monument that honors the soldiers killed during the Invasion.

The occasions were:

1. Barack Obama 2010

2. Barack Obama 2011

3. Barack Obama 2012

For the past 68 years, all presidents, except Obama, have paid tribute to the fallen soldiers killed on D-Day.
This year, instead of honoring the soldiers, he made a campaign trip on Air Force 1 to California to raise funds for the upcoming election.

Over 100 individuals and organizations have been forced to file 33 lawsuits against the Obama Administration to demand respect of their religious liberty. The choice before these employers is untenable: either violate their conscience or refuse to comply with the anti-conscience mandate and face burdensome fines.

These individuals, organizations, and businesses contribute mightily to civil society by providing education, health care, and countless social services. Heritage has profiled a few of the many victims of Obamacare’s coercive disregard for religious freedom. From charities faced with hefty fines for practicing what they preach to business owners told that their religious freedom stops at the door to colleges forced to end student health plans because of Obamacare’s costly provisions and threat to conscience, the health care law jeopardizes the work of countless institutions.

Sadly, during the V.P. debate it wasn’t the first time Biden has distorted the facts on the mandate’s serious assault on religious freedom. Contrary to what the Obama Administration would have Americans believe, there is no so-called “accommodation” for religious employers not covered by the mandate’s narrow religious exemption. The Administration’s press conference promises and bureaucratic announcements of a supposed “accommodation” neither changed the coercive mandate currently in effect nor provided any workable or adequate solutions to the mandate’s trampling on religious liberty. They are nothing more than a smokescreen to hide the mandate’s unconstitutional assault on a basic freedom.

Policymakers and national leaders should understand the primacy of religious freedom in the American constitutional order and work to protect that freedom, not undermine it. A first step towards the greater protection of religious freedom is rescinding the anti-conscience mandate and repealing Obamacare with all of its liberty-crushing provisions.
